COMMUNITY DANCE LAB WITH MONTPELIER SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER

TWO TUESDAYS, AUGUST 10 & 17, 9:00-10:30 AM

$15 MSAC MEMBERS / $30 PUBLIC | AGE 9+ | STATE HOUSE LAWN, SW CORNER NEAR THE TREES, PARKING HANDY

In this two-day workshop accessible to all bodies and abilities, we will use movement as our primary language and co-create a new dance! We will use improvisation to generate ideas, choice-making, discovering connection, and a sense of belonging in our new group. We will be a playful dancing ensemble for the time we are together and create then invite an audience to watch our a new collective story in a culminating performance! And, in the end, we'll all have a dance we can take with us and 'share forward' with friends and family! Folding chairs will be available for seated option. Age 12 and under requires adult accompaniment.

Email Alana to register!

NATURAL MOVEMENT AND VOICE EXPLORATION

One-on-one and small group sessions for ages 10-15. This work is focused on creating time and a safe space for young people to discover their own movement qualities, pace and rhythms, and voice engagement - singing and speaking. Through improvisation and learning techniques, students will gain knowledge about their inherent instrument, which can be applied in theater, music, social settings, public speaking, and being human!

NOTE: In-person sessions to be scheduled with COVID-safety guidelines in place

EMERGENT DANCE: TUNING INTO COLLECTIVE EFFERVESCENCE
STAR ISLAND RETREAT, JUNE 2022
ISLE OF SHOALS, NH

Alana was invited to lead a week-long workshop on Star Island in 2020. Due to COVID-19, the program was held virtually June 2021. And, she has been invited to lead a workshop 'on island' in 2022.

In this workshop, we will become familiar with our dancing selves as individuals, within a group, and in a broader context as art makers of the world. Using the Park Dancing format, we will awaken our sense of play and TUNE IN to our somatic senses, and make a "dance that matters." ~Anna Halprin
